Godzilla Minus One
DescriptionIn postwar Japan, Godzilla brings new devastation to an already scorched landscape. With no military intervention or government help in sight, the survivors must join together in the face of despair and fight back against an unrelenting horror.

From renowned director, screenwriter & VFX visionary Takashi Yamazaki (The Eternal Zero, Stand By Me Doraemon) comes GODZILLA MINUS ONE, a film about the power of home in the face of despair.

The film stars Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando, and Kuranosuke Sasaki, with music by Naoki Sato.

[Innovations]

While there are only 610 VFX shots, they account for two-thirds of the total runtime.

To maintain photorealistic expression while reducing the workload, we filmed many scenes in parking lots with road conditions similar to the era, utilizing the shadows and effects of people and objects.

In this production, about 35 core members were responsible for the creation, but there were only 5 dedicated FX artists. The rest of the staff consisted of generalists who handled multiple roles.

Not only the VFX team but also the filming staff share the final image.

One of the reasons why such optimization of VFX is possible is that the director himself creates storyboards, holds meetings with many staff members, and the scene construction staff directly creates pre-visualizations and then returns to the storyboard. By repeating this process for over two months, we achieve significant results.
