Technical Artists are a commonly seen role in the game industry. Their work requires an understanding of not only programming and data structure but also of art and the artists doing the work. TAs contribute to quality products by utilizing the latest technologies and acting as a bridge between multiple departments, and depending on the studio, often take on many different roles. This session will introduce the responsibilities of TAs at PlatinumGames and go into detail on some of the initiatives they've spearheaded in our development teams.

In the last several years, cinematic-quality lip sync animation has become an indispensable tool in creating lifelike character expression and dramatic story direction. To create the level of expression that players expect from the current generation of games, PlatinumGames has made efforts to internally develop a system to both improve and automate the lip syncing process. In this session, we'll use videos and images to discuss our R&D efforts in making this system, including examples of generated animations and overall insight into how the system was created.
