Biography
Peter Nelson is an Assistant Professor in fine art, media studies, computer games, and creative technology with a background as a practicing artist. He has lived and worked in East Asia for 15 years, publishing academic research and exhibiting artworks. His technical areas of expertise are painting, drawing, 3D modeling, animation, fabrication, and interactivity. His first book ‘Computer Games as Landscape Art’ (Palgrave Macmillan 2023) considers how first-person shooter computer games can be understood through the art historical lens of landscape, and his recent papers examine questions such as realism in the age of computer-simulated images, and the role of AI in digital creative processes. He exhibits ink paintings with HanArt TZ Gallery, Hong Kong, and regularly collaborates with violinist, technologist, and theorist Roberto Alonso.
