Art Gallery Theme: Starting with Spinning

Rooted in the intricate craft of Malaysian batik and aligning with SIGGRAPH Asia 2026’s theme, “Weaving the Future,” the Art Gallery curates an exhibition centered on the foundational origins of digital art.

Every textile begins at the fiber level—spun meticulously into yarn before taking form. In the early eras of computer graphics, digital pioneers worked under similar constraints, engineering bespoke hardware, writing custom algorithms, and building their own tools from scratch. Today, while generative technologies enable the rapid output and swift turnover of digital content, this exhibition turns attention back to works crafted with that foundational, pioneering rigor.

Starting with Spinning showcases computational moving imagery, responsive environmental installations, kinetic robotics, and digital fabrication that reject off-the-shelf shortcuts. By highlighting the deliberate material choices, iterations, and creative detours behind each piece, the exhibition offers a critical look at how ground-up innovation continues to redefine modern digital culture and human-computer expression.

Join us in Kuala Lumpur as we celebrate the pioneer spirit and explore the evolving intersections of technology, craft, and art.
Stay tuned as more details of the program will be revealed soon!
