Takeshi Okuya

Biography
Takeshi Okuya is a 3DCG engineer and researcher. He is currently an Adjunct Researcher at Waseda University and a member of ASC (Anime System Community), a Japanese engineering group dedicated to anime production. Previously, he has served as a researcher at several game and anime studios. His primary research interests include asset pipelines and anime-style non-photorealistic rendering (NPR).
In asset pipeline development, he focuses on creating tools to integrate distinct workflows in anime production, encompassing stages such as hand-drawn animation, 3DCG, and compositing. Recently, he has been working on adapting OpenUSD to better address the specific needs of Japanese anime production.
In anime-style NPR rendering, his research centers on real-time renderers, including those used in game engines. His work includes developing algorithms to emulate hand-drawn outlines and perspectives, as well as customizing rendering systems to support the compositing process in anime production.
