Sally Hattori

Biography
Sally Hattori is Director of ML Engineering at StudioLAB, The Walt Disney Studios, where she drives cutting-edge technology projects, focusing on production technology innovations. Her expertise includes developing next-generation media workflows (4K/UHD, HDR, Immersive Audio), leveraging machine learning for content creation and management, and pushing the boundaries of entertainment experiences.
Before joining The Walt Disney Studios in 2014, Sally was a Senior Engineer of Technology Strategy and Standards at Sony Corporation. There, she led strategic planning and standardization efforts for video codecs, media applications, and services, collaborating with manufacturers, content providers, and tech companies to develop pioneering technologies and standards.
An active member of SMPTE, Sally currently serves as the SMPTE Standards VP and has previously held the position of SMPTE Standards Director. Her dedication has been recognized with multiple awards for her innovative patents and significant contributions to international standards development, and she is honored as a SMPTE Fellow.
Sally holds a Master's Degree in Information and Communication Engineering from Waseda University, underscoring her strong technical foundation and commitment to advancing the field of media technology.
