Invisible effects: Crafting the elements in the dramatic context
DescriptionJoin Wētā FX’s recent Emmy award-winners, VFX Producer Libby Hazell and
Sequence VFX Supervisor François Sugny, as they dive into the invisible effects that
brought to life Ripley’s deceit in Ripley.

In this talk, Libby will share how close collaboration with filmmakers ensured the team
delivered visual effects that enhanced the narrative and resonated with audiences.
Together, they will share valuable insights into the team’s strategy for optimisation and
innovation, touching how Foundry’s Nuke and bespoke solutions were used to meet
tight timelines.
With the ocean as a backdrop for the plot’s dramatic events, how the water looks,
moves, and behaves is crucial for conveying the drama and suspense in each film,
and Wētā FX’s years of research and reference were key to providing the necessary
nuance and depth. Francois will explore some of the aesthetic principals utilised
across post-production, and touch on the live action elements that are carefully
incorporated into the final shot to achieve visual cohesion while maintaining amazing
invisible effects.

This session will be powered by our partners Lenovo and AMD.
