Educator’s Forum

Submission Deadline: 7 August 2024, 23:59 AoE. (Closed)

SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 Educator’s Forum invites researchers, developers and educators from both academia and the industry to present innovative research outcomes, methods and developments related to the educations of computer graphics and interactive techniques and application of computer graphics and interactive techniques in all areas of learning.

Along with this year’s SIGGRAPH Asia conference theme “Curious Minds”, Educator’s Forum aims to bridge the gap between educator and the other curious minds, including researchers, designers, artists, game developers, and so on. This forum can provide an international and active platform for conducting inter-disciplinary research collaboration and improving the education practices for computer graphics and interactive techniques. We believe the education as a foundation and core part of emerging techniques, arts and games for forming a bridge among diverse communities and generations. We wish to support the evolving integration of art and technology embraced by educators. As an international gathering of industry professionals and academics, the Educators Forum will present perspectives that appeal to a wide spectrum of interests. We will share educational strategies adopted in both industry and academia to make the learning process more satisfying, productive, and meaningful.

The program is seeking submissions for:

  • Education Papers: Peer-reviewed academic papers that present research and case studies relevant to the SIGGRAPH Asia Educator’s Forum.
  • Education Talks: Short presentations covering newly developed works, ideas, and projects still in the development stage.
  • EETA (Engaging Education Techniques and Assignments): Short presentations of engaging class assignments on computer graphics and interactive techniques

Expanded versions of selected papers and talk abstracts will be recommended to the editors of prominent international journals and be considered for publication in the prestigious journals, including Computers & Graphics (CAG), IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications (IEEE CG&A) and Metaverse (APASCI).

Education Papers and Education Talks should build upon previous research, reference related works, and include an evidence-based discussion on the educational benefits. Best education paper awards will be selected by the committees among the presented education papers and talks in SIGGRAPH Asia 2024.

We encourage the collaboration with the other submissions categories in SIGGRAPH Asia 2024, and look forward to the submissions related to art education in Art Paper, computer graphics education in Technical Communications and education for interactive techniques in Emerging Technologies.

Submissions related to academic curricula should have discussions beyond introduction of a specific program. Please include a brief explanation on how the program fits within the educational system of your country/region to facilitate better understanding by an international audience. We are seeking works that would benefit other educators and researchers, and fill the gap between research and education communities to facilitate the potential collaborations.
Promotions of commercial products or school programs should be presented in the Exhibition program.
If the review committee determines that the content is more appropriate for other parts of the SIGGRAPH Asia conference, submissions may be sent to other programs.
Engaging Education Techniques and Assignments (EETA)
Engaging Education Techniques and Assignments (EETA) are peer-reviewed course assignments focusing on computer graphics and interactive techniques. They are meant to be made available for educators to easily search, download, and use in their classrooms.
EETA submissions are welcome from educators, researchers, and industry professionals. EETAs do not necessarily need to be novel, but they do need to be innovative. They should be designed and tested for classes at any level, although they often are targeted for later in the CS curriculum (CS2 and beyond). They should be fun to teach and fun to do. EETAs are meant to be accompanied by all materials needed to incorporate the assignments into the classroom. Accepted EETAs will be available in the ACM Digital Library.
EETA submission abstract should explain the assignment and contextualize the contribution for other educators who will be using it in their educational setting. The abstract must provide classification of the assignment with respect to its content and level of study (undergraduate, graduate/postgraduate, etc.), prerequisites, audience, learning outcomes and assessment method.

Please contact the SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 Educator’s Forum Chair if you would like to consider other presentation formats.

We encourage submissions in educational research in the scope of SIGGRAPH Asia conference, including Computer Graphics, Interactive Techniques, CG Animation, Video Games, VFX, VR/AR/XR, Visualization, AI in Graphics:

  • Application of these areas to education of other topics, such as Generative AI, STEAM, fine arts, performing arts, design, architecture, medical and social sciences
  • Curriculum development and the use of learning techniques for teaching these areas
