Art Papers Theme: Entangled Agencies

The SIGGRAPH Asia 2025 Art Papers program will serve as a critical lens to examine and reimagine the evolving relationship between man and machines. Moving beyond a framework driven by capitalist values of efficiency and function, the theme “Entangled Agencies” explores contemporary trajectories of creative collaboration between artists and computational systems. How do artists retain artistic agency over their work? What control do they give up? How can machines help artists step out of their comfort zone? What new methods and tools do we need as we navigate the complex intersection of human creativity, machine capabilities, and cultural expression?

The Art Paper Program accepts articles in the following categories:
  • Projects and case studies

Papers in this category provide a rigorous documentation of a realized project, situating it within the current state of the art while offering a critical reflection on both the creative process and its outcomes.

  • New technologies and methods

Papers in this category offer new technological and methodological insights to open new pathways to artistic practices and scholarly discourse.

  • History, theory, and criticism
  • Papers in this category provide new historical, theoretical, and critical insights into media arts practices, examining their entanglement with technological infrastructures and the contexts in which they evolve.

  • Critical media practices
  • Papers in this category challenge dominant narratives, interrogate the underlying infrastructures of media systems, and explore alternative, experimental, and interventionist modes of production.

These papers will be published as part of the proceedings on the ACM Digital Library.

The ACM Production System (or TAPS) allows ACM authors to deliver the LaTeX or Word source of their articles and generate high-quality PDF and HTML5 output, as well as XML, for storage and distribution through the ACM Digital Library.
The introduction of the consolidated ACM article template in 2017 was an important building block for the future of the ACM Digital Library, as it made more consistent the underlying metadata that is a part of an author’s source material – the LaTeX commands and Word styles an author uses in the preparation of their article defines the various parts of their article: the title, the authors, the section headings, and so on. More information on the ACM article template, including links to the templates and “best practices,” can be found at this link.
Kindly refer to this website for a comprehensive guide on how to prepare your paper.

All contributors to SIGGRAPH Asia Annual Conferences are now required to use ACM’s rights management system to grant rights to publish accepted content rather than through the SIGGRAPH Asia Submission System. Essentially, submission tracking, jury review, and acceptance remain the same, but now the rights management is through ACM, the parent organization of SIGGRAPH Asia.
You will be asked to complete an ACM rights management form, which includes permission to record and distribute the audio and video of your recorded presentation through official channels of ACM/SIGGRAPH Asia. For most content types, this will be a Permission and Release form, which allows authors to retain copyright

As a contributor to an ACM-sponsored event, the following expectations apply to you, should your content be accepted for presentation:

  • You have the permission to use everything that is in your presentation. This includes securing permission to use third-party material, and providing documentation of that permission to ACM.(More Information On The Proper Use Of Third-Party Material In Your Presentation)
  • If you are using copyrighted musical compositions in your presentation, you must secure performing rights licenses.
  • You must have the authority to grant ACM the right to distribute your presentation.
Once your contribution is accepted, you will receive a link via email to the appropriate form for your contribution.
