Emerging Technologies is the premier arena to demonstrate novel interactive technologies to a large audience, inspire, be amazed, and experience the future. SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 Emerging Technologies program is planned to take place with the theme: “Beyond Boundaries”.
At SIGGRAPH Asia, we are looking for submissions that use novel interactive technologies that have possibilities to bring benefits, usefulness, or comfort into our future lives. These technologies may include, but are not limited to:

Accepted Emerging Technologies works will be presented as on-going demonstrations throughout SIGGRAPH Asia 2024. Technical support will be provided to make the most of each demo. If your work is accepted, you will have the opportunity to give a technical presentation, advertised in the conference program. Media outreach efforts will be organized to further increase awareness and publicity. A promotional video will be widely distributed, and an extended abstract and video of each exhibit will be distributed through the ACM Digital Library for SIGGRAPH Asia. Also, if you want to give an oral presentation about your work, you may do so during the Emerging Technologies Talks session at SIGGRAPH Asia.
Take note:
Please pay special attention to the following points.
- During the opening hours of the Emerging Technologies area, at least one staff member must be present at the demo at all times (it is prohibited to leave the exhibition solely in the hands of student volunteers: SVs).
- It is not permitted for SVs to operate expensive equipment.
- It is prohibited to ask SVs to procure equipment or materials for setting up demonstrations.

Please review and carefully follow the submission requirements below. Incomplete or wrongly completed submissions will not be considered. When you begin the form, your submission will be assigned with a submission identification (ID) number that will be used to identify your submission throughout the review process. You can modify the form up until the deadline. If the required information is missing, your form will be marked incomplete. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed or accepted.

Submission Form
This is where you give a detailed text description of your demonstration. The form will ask you about:
- Category/technology: How would you best categorize your piece or the technology it uses? Choose one existing keyword from the supplied list, or submit your own.
- Executive summary (50 words or less): A brief one- or two-sentence summary that you could use to concisely explain your project’s innovation to the hundreds of people you will meet each day at SIGGRAPH Asia.
- Place your work in context: How does this work expand on prior work? How is this approach different from what has been previously attempted? What are the advantages and disadvantages of your approach? Make sure to include references to previous work, including your own. Especially careful investigation and citation of previous Emerging Technologies works are indispensable.
- References: Provide a full list of relevant previously published works by yourself and others.
- Has this work appeared or been submitted elsewhere? Indicate whether this work has been presented, published, or submitted elsewhere. This includes work that is closely derivative of other work or techniques. If so, please give details to strengthen your proposal.
- How many people can participate at one time?
- How long is the experience?
- How long will you need for setup?
- How many people will it take in the booth to explain your demonstration?
- Project URL: If your project has a public web page that you would like to make available to the reviewers, include the URL here.
Technical Requirements
On this page, you give detailed information about your needs for networking, electricity, set-up time, and other resources for a successful Emerging Technologies exhibit and describe your work including size, weight, as well as light and sound emission.

Mandatory Files
- Extended abstract with 2 – 4 pages: Describe the background, related work, method, social impact, and future vision of your work. Since the Emerging Technologies attendees will try your work at the venue, the description of the evaluation part is optional. In the first stage, a 2-4 page extended description and discussion in PDF format of your submission for evaluation by a selection jury. You may include images, citations, references, technical statements, URLs to examples, etc., but must confine your results to two pages only. Remember, this statement should appropriately detail the merits of your work
DO NOTE: If your work gets accepted, you will be required to submit your Extended Abstract in PDF format and adhere to a 2-page limit. - Please note: You should prepare your submissions according to the Instructions For Authors.
- Floor plan: Submit detailed layout of space needed for installation, including power requirements, exact dimensions of floor space and height, lighting, audio, power sources. Typical tables and chairs will be provided according to your request without additional fees. If you require special equipment or furniture, write the specifications. Please refer to these PDFs for reference: Sample 1 and Sample 2.
- A logistics plan: This plan further describes the requirements for your proposed demo. Important details must include unique staging and handling concerns, the time required to set up, diagrams for space utilization (including any overhead requirements such as clearances or hanging suspensions), number of people required to set up and/or present, dependency on radio/wireless control elements, or any other aspects of your demo. If in doubt, no detail is too small to include here for conference planners. Remember: If your proposal is accepted, your demo must be presented for several days, so please make sure you include chairs for each presenter in your group in the space layout.
- One image for web: In JPG or PNG format, max. 200 KB for website publication.
- One image for print publication (300 dpi, 1,500 x 1,200): Images should typically be a minimum of 1,500 pixels wide and 1,200 pixels tall to be suitable for publication. If your native format is smaller than that (for example, video) submit the highest resolution image possible. At least 300 dpi at 4 inches tall x 5 inches wide. Pixel resolution of at least 1,500 x 1,200. No compression, Mac, or PC platforms. Images MUST be submitted in digital format.
- A representative video, a maximum of five minutes: Maximum 200 MB. The best way to communicate an interactive installation is through video. Each submission should include a polished video that explains the significance or importance of your submission in a concise manner. Videos must be uploaded at 720p (1280×720), using either MPEG-4, AAC, or H.264 encoding and should not exceed 200 MB. The maximum duration is five minutes. Please take time to light and shoot your video as carefully as possible, because we will use it in the official Emerging Technologies Preview Video Trailer, which will encourage attendees to come to see all of Emerging Technologies. We strongly encourage all Emerging Technologies submitters to provide a video with English narration and/or text that explains the main points of their submissions. Make sure to test your video on a variety of different operating systems and media players before submitting it! The video of accepted work will appear on the ACM digital library.

Below, we highlight features of each program that help submitters to decide which program to submit to. However, for some works, it may not be possible to clearly decide the best-fitting program.
In that case, we encourage submitters to:
- Submit the work to all fitting programs at the same time
- Email the respective program chairs to notify them about this

Then, the program chairs will decide which program this work best fits in and only judge it in that category.
Distinguishing Features of Each Program
- Art Gallery
- Submitted works need to fit the theme “Neither Utopia Nor Dystopia” and have to be intended as art projects.
- Emerging Technologies
- Place for innovative technologies that provides novel experiences
- This year’s theme: “Beyond Boundaries”
- Often features new hardware devices that cannot be purchased
- Works usually focus on technology with design/artistic intent being secondary
- “Maker” mentality
- XR
- Features novel VR / AR prototype systems and/or innovative content with off-the-shelf consumer products and software such as Unity or Unreal Engine
- Works usually focus on novelty of the technology with design/artistic intent
Submissions with a scientific focus are also acceptable, e.g., sophisticated redirect touching algorithms with standard hardware.
Review Process
SIGGRAPH Asia Emerging Technologies is a peer-reviewed demonstration. All submissions to the program will be reviewed by the program committee and external reviewers, which consists of industry, research, and academic professionals in the fields of graphics, computer-human interactions, display systems, computing, entertainment, design, systems engineering, interface devices, art, and related fields. Reviewing is single-blind, i.e., the names of the reviewers are hidden from the author. If your work is not accepted, that is not a reflection on its quality. Because of space limitations, we are able to accept only a limited number of pieces.
Notification
All contributors to SIGGRAPH Asia Annual Conferences are now required to use ACM’s rights management system to grant rights to publish accepted content rather than through the SIGGRAPH Asia Submission System. Essentially, submission tracking, jury review, and acceptance remain the same, but now the rights management is through ACM, the parent organization of SIGGRAPH Asia.
You will be asked to complete an ACM rights management form, which includes permission to record and distribute the audio and video of your recorded presentation through official channels of ACM/SIGGRAPH Asia. For most content types, this will be a Permission and Release form, which allows authors to retain copyright.
As a contributor to an ACM-sponsored event, the following expectations apply to you, should your content be accepted for presentation:
- You have the permission to use everything that is in your presentation. This includes securing permission to use third-party material, and providing documentation of that permission to ACM.(More Information On The Proper Use Of Third-Party Material In Your Presentation)
- If you are using copyrighted musical compositions in your presentation, you must secure performing rights licenses.
- You must have the authority to grant ACM the right to distribute your presentation.
Once your contribution is accepted, you will receive a link via email to the appropriate form for your contribution.
At the Conference
The main form of presentation in Emerging Technologies is a live demonstration, which will be available throughout the conference. You are responsible for ensuring that your demonstration is manned during all opening hours of the Emerging Technologies area. This is hard work, and over several days there will be thousands of people passing through your demonstration. Student volunteers (SVs) will be deployed to assist with the demonstrations, but it is important to remember that they are there solely for support. Leaving the demo entirely to SVs or involving them in the procurement of equipment is not allowed. Also, please note that SVs cannot be used to operate expensive demonstration equipment. Therefore, before submitting, make sure that you will have the resources to send sufficient staff to SIGGRAPH Asia. We recommend at minimum two people, but four or even more could be needed depending on the nature of your work. To facilitate this, SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 provides passes that allows access the Emerging Technologies demonstration area.
You will have the opportunity to give a short presentation, where you can explain your work in greater detail than it is possible in a demo situation. Details on this presentation will be included in the acceptance notification.
Publication
All accepted work will be documented in the SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 website and distributed through the ACM Digital Library.
Presenter and Contributor Recognition
Presenters/Contributors of each accepted submission have to register for at least one conference pass. Please visit our registration page to view the various registration categories for each program.

You can apply for a 100% discount via the submission system, one presenter per accepted submission.
Once your contribution is accepted, you will receive a link via email to the appropriate form for your contribution. You will be required to prepare the final print-ready file following the specifications in the acceptance notification.
Other Details
You will be able to update your basic submission information so that it can be included in the conference program and website. This information needs to be finalized two weeks after acceptance.

Please note: The schedule to provide your final material after receiving the acceptance notification is very tight. Please plan your personal schedule accordingly.
For instructions about preparation and delivery of your final content for publications, please carefully follow the instructions in the acceptance letter.
You will be able to update your basic submission information and any final materials so that it can be included in the conference program and web site. This information needs to be finalized two weeks after receipt of acceptance notifications. Please be prepared to deliver your final versions of your information and work on or before these dates.
Submission Process
Q1. Should I send video documentation of my piece?
Yes, if at all possible. Video documentation is highly recommended. Time-based documentation is the best way to illustrate how conference attendees will experience your project. We may also use the video in publicity for Emerging Technologies.
Q2. May I submit my unfinished work as a “work in progress” if it is not complete by the submission deadline?
Q3. I am having trouble uploading the high-resolution digital image required for online submission. What should I do?
Q4. My email address will be changing soon. How can I notify you of the update?
Q5. I have completed the online submission forms, but the system still allows me to edit my account. Am I done?
Yes. But you are allowed to edit your online submission account until the deadline: 20 June 2024, 23:59 AoE.
Q6. Can I submit a paper, brief, poster, or other work in addition to my Emerging Technologies proposal? Can I submit an Emerging Technologies proposal if the work has already been presented at a previous SIGGRAPH conference?
In that case please email the respective program chairs (etech_asia@siggraph.org and xr_asia@siggraph.org) and notify them about this, then the program chairs will decide which program this work best fits in and only judge it in that category.
Q7. Can I submit the same piece to multiple programs?

Q1. What will SIGGRAPH Asia support if the project is accepted?

Q3. Will SIGGRAPH Asia pay for shipping and framing?
No, you are responsible for framing (NO glass, please), crating, shipping, and in-transit insurance. You must pack and ship your artwork professionally and safely. Work that arrives at SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 in substandard condition may be pulled from the show.
Q4. Audio Visual?
You will be responsible for your own Audio-Visual equipment. An AV rental list will be provided to you upon acceptance.
Q5. I have an over-sized work that I just want push-pinned to the wall. Is this acceptable?
Q6. Can I display a visual postcard with my work on it in the art gallery?
Q7. Will SIGGRAPH Asia pay for any duty or taxes on international shipments?
Q8. Does SIGGRAPH Asia have funding to ship my equipment to the conference?
At The Conference
Q1. If I show my work at SIGGRAPH Asia, will I have to watch my equipment?
Yes. You will need to have enough people to watch your installation or art piece if it requires monitoring.
Q2. Do I need to install my own work?
We will work closely with you to ensure proper and effective installation of your work. Exhibition installation will be accomplished by professionals, although complex works will need your individual participation, so you should plan to arrive early to assist with the installation.
Q3. Will SIGGRAPH Asia pay for my accommodations and travel expenses?
No. You are responsible for your own expenses.
