Educational Perilune: Visual effects practices at Media Design School
DescriptionThis paper builds on the work presented by Oliver Hilbert at the SIGGRAPH Asia 2015, Symposium on Education. We examine enhancements to the project-based learning (PBL) model previously presented. The work presented here analyses the application of learning experience design (LXD) techniques as a method to enrich PBL. Both works introduce and explore educational methods applied to teaching and learning in the creative technologies space. We analyse the effectiveness of PBL augmented with LXD philosophies for instruction designed specifically for CGI, 3D animation and visual effects subject matter. Our objective by employing these methods is to create an interactive, rich, and effective learning environment and provide educational solutions to further engage learners to development and apply knowledge and skills in a PBL context. We examine the production of a short film, Perilune as a case study on the effectiveness of LXD in enhancing learning. To conclude, we provide qualitative data measuring the success of students engaged in these learning and teaching techniques.
