Starting with a simulated model of th e human vocal tract, we first try generating vocal imitations by tuning th e model's control parameters to make the synthesized vocalization match th e target sound in terms of perceptually-salient auditory features. Then, t o better match human intuitions, we apply a cognitive theory of communicat ion to take into account how human speakers reason strategically about the ir listeners. Finally, we show through several experiments and user studie s that when we add this type of communicative reasoning to our method, it aligns with human intuitions better than matching auditory features alone does. This observation has broad implications for the study of depiction i n computer graphics.\n\nRegistration Category: Full Access, Full Access Su pporter\n\nLanguage Format: English Language\n\nSession Chair: Yi Zhou (Ad obe) URL:https://asia.siggraph.org/2024/program/?id=papers_1006&sess=sess147 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
