SUMMARY:[CANCELLED] Facing Forward: Challenges in the Art, Science and Dig
ital Production of 3D Facial Animation
DESCRIPTION:Karan Singh (Professor of Computer Science)\n\nHumans are hard
-wired to see and interpret minute facial detail. The rich signals we extr
act from facial expressions set high expectations for computer-generated f
acial imagery. This talk traces the history, art, and science of 3D facial
animation, to current challenges in animating expressive faces for film a
nd games. The talk will touch upon aspects of facial anatomy, biomechanics
, linguistics and perceptual psychology relevant to the construction of ge
ometric face rigs, and techniques for the animator-centric creation of emo
tion, expression and speech animation from input images, audio and video.
In some measure, the talk will reveal some of the technological innovation
s that enabled the design and creation of faces in games like Cyberpunk 20
77 (Game of the year 2020), and films like Avatar: the way of water (Best
VFX Oscar 2023), respectively.\n\nRegistration Category: Enhanced Access,
Full Access, Full Access Supporter\n\nLanguage Format: English Language, A
 I Translation Multi-Language\n\n
