SUMMARY:Kingdom of The Planet of the Apes (R)Evolutionary Facial Animation
DESCRIPTION:Stuart Adcock and Allison Orr (Wētā FX)\n\nSet over 300 years 
 after Caeser's death, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes introduces a host 
 of new primates whose evolution into diverse societies with unique customs
  is highlighted by their dramatic increase in spoken dialogue. The dynamic
  nature of the film required a new approach not taken on previous Apes fil
 ms.  Wētā FX's Head of Facial Department Stuart Adcock and Lead Facial Mot
 ion Animator, Allison Orr,  will discuss the tools and techniques artists 
 used to translate every nuance of an actors performance and bring life to 
 a kingdom of digital apes.  \nFrom the curious and often forlorn Noa, to t
 he humorous and expressive Raka, each of the 11 principal characters had d
 istinct personalities.  In order to translate the actors performance to th
 eir CG ape counterpart, it was essential for the Facial Animation team to 
 capture the actors' distinct expressions right down to their subtle facial
  asymmetry. Stuart and Allison will share insight into Wētā's unique facia
 l performance capture technology, including the derived 3D depth mesh and 
 the information this provided artists. \nFinally, they will explore the to
 ols that Wētā's facial department employ to finely tune details from actor
  puppet to ape,  such as Wētā's Facial Deep Learning Solver and DeepShapes
  approach. Both were used for the first time on an ape character, and allo
 wed artists greater fidelity to achieve the final captivating story.\n\nRe
