SUMMARY:A Pedagogical Workflow for Interconnected Learning: Integrating Mo
tion Capture in Animation, Visual Effects, and Game Design
DESCRIPTION:Educator's Forum\n\nHossein Najafi (Hong Kong Polytechnic Univ
ersity) and Jason Kennedy, Emily Ramsay, Masaya Todoroki, and Gregory Benn
ett (Auckland University of Technology)\n\nThis paper presents a case stud
y in a curriculum structure that aims to integrate specialized course cont
ent across a range of primary study pathways. The 3-year Bachelor of Desig
n degree at the School of Art and Design, Auckland University of Technolog
y, New Zealand, offers a major in Animation, Visual Effects and Game Desig
n in which students can follow specialized pathways of study in these thre
e areas. In addition to their selected major, students can select two mino
rs to support their major course of study. A popular choice is the Motion
Capture Minor that has strong technical and creative relevance to all thre
e study pathways, and due to time and scope restraints is not able to be c
overed directly in the curriculum content of the majors. This paper examin
es this major/minor structure as a useful interconnected curriculum framew
ork that supports a learning environment whereby students can gain both in
-depth creative and technical expertise in a specialized and future-focuse
d creative technology, but also bring that knowledge to their major pathwa
ys of study.\n\nRegistration Category: Enhanced Access, Full Access, Full
Access Supporter\n\nLanguage Format: English Language\n\nSession Chair: Ka
