SUMMARY:Pulse Memorial
DESCRIPTION:Art Papers\n\nBrook Vann (University of Colorado, Boulder); J.
Molina-Garcia (Virginia Commonwealth University); and August Black (Unive
rsity of Colorado, Boulder)\n\nThe "Pulse Memorial" is a participatory art
installation exploring multichannel web audio streaming, data sonificatio
n, and field recordings to address queer grief and erasure. Inspired by To
ni Morrison's concept of "disremembrance," it offers an immersive sonic ex
perience fostering collective remembrance. Sound is generated by combining
data sonification and field recordings into an 8-channel score, then tran
smitted via WebRTC to participants—one channel per device—for a multi-chan
nel sonic event. This project transforms memorials from passive, site-spec
ific events to community-driven experiences. It provokes curiosity about d
igital media’s role in preserving cultural memory and amplifying marginali
zed voices.\n\nRegistration Category: Enhanced Access, Full Access, Full A
ccess Supporter\n\nLanguage Format: English Language\n\nSession Chair: Vic
 toria Szabo (Duke University, ACM)
