SUMMARY:KnitworkVR: Dual-reality Experience through Distributed Sensor-Act
uator Networks in the Living Knitwork Pavilion
DESCRIPTION:Art Papers\n\nIrmandy Wicaksono, Lancelot Blanchard, and Sam C
hin (MIT Media Lab); Cristian Colon (Massachusetts Institute of Technology
); and Joseph Paradiso (MIT Media Lab)\n\nKnitworkVR integrates dual-reali
ty and digital twin platforms to simulate the Living Knitwork Pavilion in
a desert landscape, using real-time sensor data. The sensor network captur
es movements, interactions, and spatial positioning of occupants, linking
electric field sensor data with VR positioning. This creates a sensor-driv
en immersive experience with dynamic lighting, live animations, and adapti
ve soundscapes, enabling telepresence and collaborative interaction in bot
h digital and physical environments. This paper explores the functional te
xtile design, sensing hardware, audiovisual system, and VR framework, high
lighting the applications of immersive spaces with knitted electronic text
 iles and distributed physical-digital systems.\n\nRegistration Category: E
nhanced Access, Full Access, Full Access Supporter\n\nLanguage Format: Eng
lish Language\n\nSession Chair: Everardo Reyes (Université Paris 8)
