SUMMARY:Thermochromorph: Dynamic Relief Printing with Thermochromic Inks
DESCRIPTION:Art Papers\n\nTicha Sethapakdi (MIT CSAIL), Paris Myers (MIT M
edia Lab), Tianyu Yu (University of California Berkeley), Juliana Covarrub
ias (MIT CSAIL), Mackenzie Leake (Adobe Research), and Stefanie Mueller (M
IT CSAIL)\n\nThermochromorph is a novel relief printing technique that pro
duces multicolored images that transition into each other through changes
in temperature. Our process utilizes two sets of CMYK thermochromic inks t
hat exhibit complementary color-changing behaviors: one shifting from colo
r to transparency, the other from transparency to color at the same activa
tion temperature. We describe our printmaking workflow, provide an open-so
urce software toolkit, showcase prints made with our system, and facilitat
e an artist workshop. By incorporating new materials and technology with t
he rich history of printmaking, our work extends the expressive capabiliti
es of relief printing as the medium continues to evolve.\n\nRegistration C
