SUMMARY:Embodied Visions: Interactive Installations That Reimagine Bodily
Presence in Digital Imaging Apparatuses as Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Yunzi Shi, John Bell, and Adithya Pediredla (Dartmouth College
)\n\nThis paper describes the background, design, and exhibition of Embodi
ed Visions, three interactive installations that contend with the disembod
ying tendencies of contemporary digital imaging. Each installation encoura
ges the participants to interact with and transform the imaging and displa
y pipelines with their bodies as optical and computed shadows. Combining p
rojectors and cameras with machine-learning-based computer vision, this pr
oject presents prototypes for digital imaging that integrate optics and bo
dily presence. Initial feedback from participants confirms the novelty and
easy engagement. The installations critique the limitations of existing d
igital imaging and display technologies and reimagine alternatives that ra
ise bodily awareness for active perceptions.\n\nRegistration Category: Enh
