SUMMARY:Embodied Visions: Interactive Installations That Reimagine Bodily
Presence in Digital Imaging Apparatuses as Shadows
DESCRIPTION:Art Papers\n\nYunzi Shi, John Bell, and Adithya Pediredla (Dar
tmouth College)\n\nThis paper describes the background, design, and exhibi
tion of Embodied Visions, three interactive installations that contend wit
h the disembodying tendencies of contemporary digital imaging. Each instal
lation encourages the participants to interact with and transform the imag
ing and display pipelines with their bodies as optical and computed shadow
 s. Combining projectors and cameras with machine-learning-based computer v
ision, this project presents prototypes for digital imaging that integrate
optics and bodily presence. Initial feedback from participants confirms t
he novelty and easy engagement. The installations critique the limitations
of existing digital imaging and display technologies and reimagine altern
atives that raise bodily awareness for active perceptions.\n\nRegistration
