SUMMARY:Computational Medical XR (CMXR): Pioneering the Future of Healthca
re Through Computational Medicine and Extended Reality
DESCRIPTION:George Papagiannakis (ORamaVR; ICS-FORTH, University of Crete)
and Oliver Kannape (Geneva University Hospital, MindMaze SA)\n\nIn the ra
pidly evolving landscape of digital medicine and healthcare, Computational
Medical Extended Reality (CMXR) emerges as a groundbreaking discipline th
at synergizes life sciences, neuroscience, and computational science. This
course aims to equip computer graphics scientists and engineers with the
knowledge and skills to leverage CMXR technologies in developing advanced
medical applications.\nOver the span of this course, participants will emb
ark on an exploration of the theoretical underpinnings and practical imple
mentations of CMXR. The course begins with an introduction to CMXR, deline
ating its scope and distinguishing it from traditional Clinical and Medica
l XR. By integrating neural simulation, computational geometry, computer g
raphics, and deep learning models, CMXR addresses critical challenges in m
edicine and neuroscience.\nThe state-of-the-art section will provide insig
hts into recent advancements and research in VR/AR/MR technologies particu
larly focusing on medical training and assessment. Participants will learn
about successful clinical trials and case studies that demonstrate the ef
ficacy of CMXR in transforming medical education. This segment will also h
ighlight the role of edge computing, neuroscience, and spatial computing i
n advancing the field.\nThe hands-on sessions will enable participants to
apply their theoretical knowledge practically. Using the MAGES-SUITE platf
orm, they will create two medical XR applications: a training module and a
n assessment tool. The training application session will focus on the step
-by-step development of a VR surgical training module, utilizing low-code/
no-code tools for rapid prototyping. The assessment tool session will guid
e participants in designing a module for evaluating therapeutic skills, in
corporating real-time analytics and feedback mechanisms.\nThe course will
conclude with a discussion on the challenges and future directions in CMXR
, encouraging participants to engage in an interactive dialogue. By the en
d of this course, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of CMX
R and its transformative potential in medical training, positioning them a
t the forefront of innovation in this dynamic field.\n\nRegistration Categ
