SUMMARY:GentlePoles : Designing Wooden Pole Actuators for Guiding People
DESCRIPTION:Poster\n\nMasaya Shimizu, Berend te Linde, Takatoshi Yoshida,
Arata Horie, Nobuhisa Hanamitsu, and Kouta Minamizawa (Keio University Gra
duate School of Media Design)\n\nGentle Poles are wooden pole-like actuato
rs that gently rotate to guide people without relying on text signs or sta
ff. By arranging poles with individually controllable rotation direction a
nd speed, the system gently and subtly directs people. For example, change
s in rotation can convey messages such as "go" or "stop. In environments s
uch as airports, these poles can serve as triggers for passengers to acces
s the information they need, while providing visual reassurance to surroun
ding passengers. The goal is to gently present information in public space
s with low cognitive load, addressing challenges such as staff shortages a
nd information overload.\n\nRegistration Category: Enhanced Access, Exhibi
