SUMMARY:Controlled Spectral Uplifting for Indirect-Light-Metamerism
DESCRIPTION:Mark van de Ruit and Elmar Eisemann (Delft University of Techn
ology)\n\nSpectral rendering has received increasing attention in recent y
ears. Yet, solutions to define spectral reflectances are mostly limited to
techniques which deterministically uplift existing RGB inputs. Only recen
tly has uplifting enabled constraining a surface appearance under direct i
lluminants. Yet, prior work in this area limits artist expressiveness and
is poorly suited for designing a scene's appearance, as indirect illuminat
ion is ignored entirely.\n\nWe present an uplifting technique with fine-gr
ained spectral appearance control under direct and indirect illumination,
even enabling the placement of spectral constraints in a specific scene. O
ur approach allows for a flexible authoring process, and solves for the re
sulting spectra efficiently. Additionally, we show that our method's memor
y overhead during rendering is kept small, by introducing a compact spectr
al texture format.\n\nRegistration Category: Full Access, Full Access Supp
