SUMMARY:Solid-Fluid Interaction on Particle Flow Maps
DESCRIPTION:Duowen Chen and Zhiqi Li (Georgia Institute of Technology); Ju
nwei Zhou (Purdue University, University of Michigan); Fan Feng (Dartmouth
College); Tao Du (Tsinghua University, Shanghai Qi Zhi Institute); and Bo
Zhu (Georgia Institute of Technology)\n\nWe propose a novel solid-fluid i
nteraction method for coupling elastic solids with impulse flow maps. Our
key idea is to unify the representation of fluid and solid components as p
article flow maps with different lengths and dynamics. The solid-fluid cou
pling is enabled by implementing two novel mechanisms: first, we developed
an impulse-to-velocity transfer mechanism to unify the exchanged physical
quantities; second, we devised a particle path integral mechanism to accu
mulate coupling forces along each flow-map trajectory. Our framework integ
rates these two mechanisms into an Eulerian-Lagrangian impulse fluid simul
ator to accommodate traditional coupling models, exemplified by the Materi
al Point Method (MPM) and Immersed Boundary Method (IBM), within a particl
e flow map framework. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach by simul
ating solid-fluid interactions exhibiting strong vortical structures, exem
plified by various vortex shedding and interaction examples across swimmin
g, falling, breezing, and combustion.\n\nRegistration Category: Full Acces
