 ation behavior of elastic rods interacting with boundary conditions. We ch
 aracterize the set of all equilibrium states admitted by this model, assum
 ing spatially-varying cross sections, and present an algorithm to compute 
 the geometry of a rod that will produce a prescribed equilibrium state.\n\
