Demoscene

Submission Deadline: 14 December 2023, 00:00 Australia/Melbourne Time

What is the Demoscene?

The Demoscene is an international computer art subculture focused on producing demos: self-contained, sometimes extremely small, computer programs that produce audio-visual presentations. The purpose of a demo is to show off programming, visual art, and musical skills. Demos and other Demoscene productions are shared at festivals known as demoparties, voted on by those who attend, and released online.

Call for Demos

SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 will be hosting a demo competition. While we want to give visitors a taste of a real demo party, we also do not want to cannibalise submissions from the existing Australian Demoscene events. As such, we will allow original submissions as well submissions that have also been entered in any Demoscene party.

Submit your Demo entry here.

FAQ

  • Given SIGGRAPH has a focus on computer animation and realtime graphics, we don’t have a stand-alone music or graphics competition, instead, we have integrated this into best soundtrack or creative execution for a given platform.

  • We revised our categories and added WILD to allow for console demos, fantasy consoles, and any other hardware that can run a demo – to make it easier to know into which category you should submit entries.

Expect the usual Demoscene activities*:

  • Demoparty
  • Compos (Competitions)
  • Technical and Creative Talks
  • Workshops
  • Retro Museum
  • Demos on display
  • Hardware old and new (C64, Amiga, Atari etc)
*Subject to changes
Come to sunny Sydney for SIGGRAPH Asia 2023 and a celebration of the Demoscene!
